JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN
5 by December 31st
At this age, school readiness becomes a priority. In Junior Kindergarten Children learn pre-reading and writing skills and recognize the sounds that letters make. A lot of attention is placed on basic math concepts including simple addition and subtraction in an age appropriate practice. Our curriculum gives children a variety of experiences in making choices, problem solving, role playing, and exploration. These are completed through a wide range of activities included in our learning centers. Your preschooler will love all the planned, fun experiences!

This classroom has been designed as an important stepping stone to elementary school. We concentrate on letter identification, letter sounds, and phonics. Daily conversations about the weather, days of the week, numbers, people, and books help each child develop the ability to vocalize important skills for this age. While preschoolers learn many necessary pre-academic skills, they also practice and learn problem solving and social skills in this class.

PRESCHOOL

The world of the child is play and through play oriented activities children learn naturally. We provide them many opportunities to socialize and to use their imagination through dramatic play and arts and crafts. Children work together daily to play, solve problems, and develop skills necessary for success in their early school years. Music is explored daily with activities such as rhythm, song, dance, and use of instruments. Little learners have a lot of fun in this classroom while learning those early language and basic math concepts. All of these activities provide our students with a strong foundation in preparation for Pre Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten.

This classroom is their first introduction to our curriculum where they will learn about circle time, playtime with educational toys, and imitating and pretending! New stories and books are introduced daily as well as new ways to connect with music and movement. A TYPICAL DAY AT SCHOOL
CIRCLE TIME
Class gathers for opening time which includes calendar, weather, and songs and finger plays. Positive character education activities are practiced at this time as well.
CENTERS & DISCOVERY TIME
Students will rotate through Centers that are designed to build the following areas of learning: Math, Literacy, Fine Motor, Sensory, Art, and Science. Children will explore materials and interact with each other. Teachers have a chance to work one on one with each child.
LITERACY SKILLS
Reading and writing are developed with phonemic awareness, matching the sounds of language to the letters that represent the sounds. We use fun, musical phonics based methods to teach the children. Students accurately acquire a solid foundation for reading using concrete skills. Students also practice forming and writing letters while holding pencils and crayons correctly.
MATH
Number Sense is developed by using manipulative objects. Children classify, group and regroup objects; recognize patterns in sequences; identify numbers by the amount in the groups; and begin to understand addition, “putting together” and subtraction, “taking away”.
POEMS, NURSERY RHYMES, FINGER PLAYS
Children interpret words with gestures and actions, as well as learning about rhyming words and keeping the beat. Rhymes further extend understanding and use of the form and function of language. Memorization skills are also developed through this kind of activity. What a fun, exciting way to develop all these skills!
ART
Art often reflects the literature of the day or seasonal themes and holidays. Children explore and create their own designs with various mediums.
MUSIC
Children love learning with music. They appreciate music in all its various forms by listening, singing and dancing to it. Students have fun learning various concepts, such as “loud, soft”, “fast, slow”, etc. Group musical experiences of singing and dancing together further enhance social skills.
SNACK TIME
Mealtime is an important time in our day where children practice social skills. Teachers sit with the children and model proper manners and various ways to communicate. You will be responsible for bringing your child a Nut free snack.
AT JOYFUL...
We build on the strengths and interests of each child to help build a solid foundation where they can develop their futures. children spend their days playing and sharing in a structured environment designed to stimulate their curiosity and build on successful experiences.
